When I ordered this, I wasn't really sure what to expect or how effective it would actually be. I have to say, this electronic watchdog is a really cool security deterrent.
As soon as the PIR sensor detects someone approaching the driveway or front door, it lets out a surprisingly realistic bark. It honestly caught us off guard. My youngest daughter came home and asked, "Mum, did we get a dog?" 😂
It offers four different barking modes, plus an SOS mode if needed. I also like that it can be powered by either USB or batteries, giving you a couple of installation options.
The best part is that it doesn't rely on Wi-Fi. It's quick to set up, uses a wireless PIR sensor and produces a loud, realistic bark that should make unexpected visitors think twice. The remote control also has excellent range, making it easy to control from a distance.
My only real criticism is that the PIR sensor isn't waterproof, so it needs to be installed under an eave, porch or other covered area if used outdoors. If your front door or garage isn't sheltered, that does limit placement a little. Thankfully, I have a large front porch, so it wasn't an issue for me.
Overall, it's not your typical home security device, but it's definitely a clever and effective deterrent, really good for seniors or anyone that lives alone. I'd happily recommend it.

Loud, Convenient and Great for Home Security
I’ve been using this for a while now, and it’s become a regular part of my nightly routine. I usually activate it with the remote before going to bed and turn it off again in the morning, which makes it really easy to use.
There are quite a few dog sounds available, and I have to say, some of them sound incredibly realistic. The first couple of times I heard it unexpectedly, I genuinely got a fright 😂
Out of curiosity, I also checked the volume with a sound meter and it reached around 116 dB when measured up close, which was much louder than I expected.
I mainly purchased it as an additional security measure for the house, particularly when we’re away travelling. Of course, it doesn’t replace a proper alarm system or security cameras, but hearing a dog barking when someone approaches gives me some extra peace of mind when the house is empty.
It was easy to set up, the remote control is very convenient, and it has worked exactly as I hoped so far. Overall, I’m very pleased with it.

Where to mount the sensor
Placement is the single biggest factor in performance. The sensor works well in sheltered outdoor and indoor positions — the diagram below shows what works and what to avoid.

Common false triggers and how to avoid them
Every motion sensor — including this one — can be triggered by something other than a person. Here's the honest list and the fix:

Aim the sensor 50–80 cm above ground, angled slightly downward and across the path. Animals usually pass under the detection cone.

Place the sensor in a shaded or covered position. Never point it directly at a window the sun rises or sets through.
Heating / cooling vents
Warm or cold air moving across the lens
Don't point the sensor at an air conditioner outlet, heater or fridge condenser.

Heat reflection off metal (roller doors in afternoon sun)
Place sensor on a side wall instead of opposite the metal door.
Heavy rain on a covered sensor
Some sensors mistake rain spray for movement
Use a sheltered position; the sensor is rated for indoor / covered placement, not direct outdoor exposure.

No. The barking is an electronic recording designed as a deterrent. It is not a monitored alarm and does not notify anyone remotely — it works by making the property sound occupied.
Does the sensor light up when it detects someone?
By default the sensor shows a small red light when it detects movement. If you would rather nobody could tell the barking is coming from a device, press the TEST button on the side of the sensor once. It still detects movement and triggers the receiver, but the red light stays off.
How loud is 110dB?
110dB is approximately the level of a rock concert at close range. For reference, a normal conversation is around 60dB, a lawnmower around 90dB and a jackhammer around 100dB. At max volume, K9-Alert is clearly audible from outside the protected space.
Can the sensor be used outdoors — for example on a driveway?
Yes, in sheltered outdoor positions. Mount it under an eave, covered porch, carport or garage entrance and it handles normal nearby rain without issue. For a driveway, fix it under a carport or eave and aim it across the approach rather than pointing into open sky. Avoid positions where rain hits the sensor directly, or where strong direct sunlight shines onto the lens all day.
Can one receiver work with two sensors — front and back?
Yes. One receiver works with multiple sensors at the same time. A sensor near the front entry and another near the back entrance will both trigger the same receiver inside — no second siren needed for most homes. Up to 8 sensors can pair to one receiver. Can I adjust the sensor sensitivity?
There is no sensitivity dial — the detection zone is fixed at roughly 0–7 m across a 110° arc. Placement controls the effective range: aim it across the approach rather than head-on, raise it slightly and tilt it downward to reduce small-animal pickup, and keep it shaded from direct sunlight and away from heat sources or moving plants.
Does it replace locks or cameras?
No. Use K9-Alert as an audible deterrent layer alongside sensible locks, lighting and storage habits.
Can the layout expand later?
Yes. Customers can order an extra wireless sensor for $39.95. One sensor can pair with multiple receivers, or multiple sensors can pair with one receiver. Contact support@k9alert.com.au for pairing help.
