TL;DR: A front door is rarely the first security layer. Driveway gates, approach visibility and daytime routines matter before someone reaches the door.
What did police report?
Victoria Police said a man gained access to a Sunbury property after ramming the front gate in March 2026. Police reported that the person then forced the front door, searched the premises and left with cash and jewellery.
The official update said investigators believed a Toyota Prado with stolen registration plates was involved and asked for information or CCTV from the area.
Practical home checks
- Review gate visibility: keep driveway gates and entry paths visible from the home or a camera angle.
- Delay front-door force: use quality locks, strike plates and clear sight lines around the main door.
- Move valuables: do not leave cash, jewellery or small electronics in obvious bedroom or hallway spots.
- Cover daytime gaps: use timers, neighbours, cameras or sound deterrence when the home is empty during the day.
- Check side entries: a front gate is only one route; side gates and garage doors still need a nightly check.
Where K9-Alert fits
K9-Alert can add a barking-dog sound layer near the approach to a front door, side gate or driveway-facing entry. It is most useful when placed where movement is detected before the person reaches the forced-entry point.

Make the approach less quiet
K9-Alert adds a portable, motion-triggered sound layer for front doors, gates, sheds and garages.
